Ride to End Obesity Round 2

The Ride to End Obesity tour continued yesterday with our team’s visit to Mesa Verde Middle School.

We had great participation during our interactive classroom presentation on nutrition, the importance of exercise, the components of BMX racing and bike and street safety. We followed the in-class portion with over an hour of on-bike time where the kids put their helmets on and took off, as they learned riding and turning techniques and had an opportunity to race one another. We had a special needs young man join us and he raised all of our spirits with his smile, as he took his turn.

We’re really excited about the number of kids we’ve helped and the number we have encouraged to make heather life choices. Stay-tuned for more school dates and districts to be announced, as our expansion is well underway.

Special thanks to our major sponsors; Chase, Wal*Mart & Barona Resort & Casino along with: Stay Strong, Goliath Financial, Vee Tire Co, Answer Racing, Shimano, ODI, Kicker, KMC, Stealth. #bmxinschools #ridetoendobesity

Ride to End Obesity Round 1

Round 1 of the Ride to End Obesity program kicked off successfully today at Black Mountain Middle School in the Poway Unified School District. Kids engaged in conversations about nutrition, staying hydrated, bike and street safety, aspects of training, and components of BMX Racing. Following the discussion, all of the kids were invited to try their hands at riding first-hand. The kids rode in and out of obstacles, as we witnessed their posture improve with each lap. Immediately we could see a surge in confidence. There were no shortage of smiles especially on Sara’s face, as she learned to ride a bike today for the first time. We may not change kids overnight, but we are committed to encouraging them to make healthier choices and to get outside and move. The play deficit in America is frightening and it’s time we get our local youth back in the game with movement. The team will be back on the road visiting another school next week.

Stay tuned for more updates.
